Strategic Planning

The Birmingham Museum of Art faced significant challenges during a transitional phase, including the imminent retirement of a long-serving Director and declining attendance trends. In response, Chora helped craft a new vision, refine the strategic focus, facilitate the leadership transition, and establish clear priorities. Ambitious strategic directions and tactics were devised to operationalize the strategic plan. The strategic guidance provided by Chora not only addressed immediate challenges but also set the stage for the museum's sustained growth and relevance in the years to come.

Chora has remained the planning consultant for the museum, recently updating its strategic plan to incorporate new strategic initiatives and the bold vision brought by the new leader who took over soon after the first plan was in place. Through effective collaboration with the Board, Chora significantly bolstered the Birmingham Museum of Art’s adaptability and evolution and reinstated its position as a vital cultural institution for the Birmingham community.

Chora has been our strategic planning partner and consultant twice in a row. Their rigorous methodology and fast-paced, well-managed planning process kept our Board and staff teams engaged and focused on results and outcomes for the plan. Chora’s managing for results philosophy is changing the way BMA goes about its daily business.
