In a transformative journey, The Bass set out to reinvent itself by expanding within the confines of its classic Miami Beach Art Deco building, undertaking a complete interior renovation to align with 21st-century ambitions. The museum thrived with a string of successful contemporary art exhibitions, igniting pride and unequivocal support from the City of Miami. The aspiration to stretch, challenge, and grow The Bass into Miami’s premier contemporary art museum needed strategic answers to emerging questions about capacity, budget, and program size.
Chora partnered with The Bass and provided strategic guidance. The museum’s mission, vision, and core strategic directions underwent a revamp, aiming to inspire while being firmly grounded in fiscal realities. With Chora’s guidance, The Bass has a clear vision for its potential and is armed with the strategic tools and a financial model to navigate a path toward excellence and sustained growth within Miami’s international contemporary art scene.

“Working with Chora empowered the museum’s senior staff to look at programs, attendance, budgets, and job descriptions by using solid metrics to assess performance and focus resources. We applied these newly learned methodologies to produce the strategic plan and evaluate museum-wide on-going performance. Additionally, the tools we acquired from Chora have been invaluable in communicating metrics with the Board and donors.”
