Strategic Planning

Situated in one of the nation’s most affluent and rapidly growing regions in the United States, the Norton Museum of Art underwent a multi-million-dollar restoration led by the acclaimed Foster + Partners. Amid accelerated migration to the region and, thus, a dramatic shift in the audience profile, the Norton was poised to realize its fullest potential. The primary purpose of the restoration was to create a new entrance and expand programming to serve the greater Palm Beach County. After the extensive renovation, the Norton’s leadership embarked on charting a strategic path for the forthcoming five years, seeking first and foremost to fortify the museum’s financial standing.

Chora was chosen as the museum’s strategic and financial planning partner for its extensive financial analysis and planning expertise. Chora’s involvement ensured the Norton Museum of Art would thrive and harness the opportunities afforded by the region’s growth and evolving demographics.

West Palm Beach, Florida

Chora’s commitment to meticulous situation assessments proved invaluable for the Norton. In an environment where many Boards may operate in isolation, Chora’s ability to deliver comprehensive and insightful current state assessments acted as a catalyst for action, aligning our Board members effectively. Their unparalleled database on museum operations and audience indicators provided an exceptional advantage. Chora’s principals also possess a profound understanding of strategic processes, emphasizing the importance of explicit choices—what to pursue and, just as crucially, what not to pursue. Their credible voice challenges traditional practices, urging Boards and Directors to embrace a forward-looking perspective, not anchored in the past. Moreover, Chora exhibited a remarkable sense of urgency, a quality not commonly found in the museum world, which significantly contributed to our progress.
