Strategic Planning

In 2020 the National Museum of the American Latino (NMAL) was created and charted by the U.S. Congress to advance the representation, understanding, and value of Latino history and culture in the United States. Chora has the privilege of partnering with the NMAL during this critical "constitutional moment" in the institution's history.

Chora’s collaboration with NMAL began with creating a shared vision of bold possibilities and defining a path forward that reflects the evolving tapestry of American society. Through meticulous strategic thinking and deliberation, Chora worked hand in hand with NMAL's leadership to navigate the complexities of identity and purpose, drawing upon our deep understanding of Latino cultures and extensive experience with planning new museums. Chora’s bilingual fluency and familiarity with the Smithsonian Institution's inner workings enriched the process, ensuring that the resulting strategic plan is not only realistic but also imbued with innovation and adaptability. As NMAL continues to evolve as a beacon of cultural representation and social progress, Chora remains steadfast in our belief that museums play a vital role in driving meaningful social change in today’s American society.
